Shipping Art and Antiques from LaPlace, LA
New Orleans is full of artists, and the things they make have to travel. Paintings, canvases, framed prints, family pieces that came out of a house after somebody died. A regular box does not get those there in one piece. We build something better.
An inner box around the piece, cushioning around that, and a second box around the whole thing. Corners and edges get built up, because that is where damage happens. Glass and glazed frames get treated as glass, not as a picture.
We have packed single canvases and we have packed whole collections. One family brought in eighteen paintings at once; that job took two days and every piece arrived.
Antiques and One-of-a-Kind Items
Furniture that fits in a box, lamps, ceramics, clocks, instruments, boxes of documents and photographs. If you can carry it in, bring it in and we will look at it. We will tell you honestly if we think it should go another way.
Insurance
Coverage costs $4 for every $100 of declared value, and we insure up to $7,500.
If the piece is insured, we pack it, and we photograph each stage as we go. Those photos are what a claim rests on. Without them the carrier denies the claim and points at the packing.
What We Do Not Do
We do not build wooden crates and we do not palletize. Sofas and mattresses are not something we ship.
Before You Come In
Bring the piece, its measurements if it is large, and some idea of what it is worth. The declared value changes the packing, not only the insurance.
