Meest has no location of its own in Louisiana. The closest ones on their list are in Texas, Florida and Georgia, so for anyone around LaPlace this counter is the place to hand the box over.
Two Ways to Send a Box to India
India is one of the few destinations where Meest publishes the whole picture, so you can decide before you pack. These are Meest figures, not ours, and Meest can change them at any time. We quote what is current on the day you ship. Their page is here: Meest shipping to India.
Air. Meest lists 10 to 14 days, a rate of $3.99 per pound plus $20 for delivery, and a limit of 50 lbs on a parcel. Duties and taxes are included in that Meest price, up to $5 per pound, so the person receiving the box pays nothing on arrival. Electronics cannot go this way.
Expedited. Meest lists 3 to 5 days and a limit of 66 lbs. Duties and taxes are not included, and Meest puts them at roughly 40 to 80 percent for the person receiving the parcel to pay. Electronics are allowed on this service.
Perfume and batteries stay out of the box either way.
These are the rates, weight limits and customs terms Meest published for India on September 1, 2026, and Meest can change any of them. We quote what is current on the day you ship.
If your parcel is going to family and you want them to receive it without a bill at the door, that is the air service. If you are sending a phone or a laptop, or you need it there this week, that is expedited, and it is worth telling the recipient what the duty is likely to be.
Documents Your Recipient Has to Send
India runs Know Your Customer checks on incoming parcels, so the person receiving the box has to identify themselves. Meest asks for one of two things:
- A copy of their Aadhaar card, front and back
- Or the first and last pages of their passport
After the shipment is paid for, the sender gets a link by email or text and uploads those pages. Sort it out with your family before you come in, because a parcel with no documents behind it sits still.

Money transfers are a different business and Meest does not do them.
What Cannot Go in the Box
Meest keeps one list for every country it serves. These are the items that come up most often at our counter, and it is not the whole list:
- No firearms, replicas, ammunition, knives or anything explosive
- No fuel, paint, solvents, bleach, aerosols, adhesives or pressurized cylinders
- No perfume, aftershave or nail polish
- No alcohol, no cash, no bank cards, no passports
- No live plants, seeds or animals, no perishable food, no dry ice
- Jewelry, watches and gold ship at your own risk, so ask before you pack them
- Batteries and anything running on them are restricted, so ask before you pack them

Insurance
Additional insurance is selected when the parcel is booked and its cost is added to the shipment, so tell us at the counter before the box is sealed. Electronics that travel unprotected or uninsured are outside what Meest will compensate, and so are jewelry and other valuables, so name anything irreplaceable while the box is still open.

- A phone number for the person receiving the parcel
- An honest description of the contents and what they are worth

What It Costs
The rates above come from Meest and move with their pricing, and there is a fuel surcharge on international shipments as well, charged by the pound and reviewed month by month since it came in on April 15, 2026. Bring the box in, or send the details to the address above, and you get the whole price, surcharge included, before anything is sealed.
